Has technology negatively impacted today’s youth?
Has having the internet made our youth not able to read as
well?
Could the internet be making it easier for us to find
information and in the outcome be making us lazier?
How was life without technology any easier?
Is there a point when
we stop and look at how much technology we all use in one day just to get
through the days, and realize that we need to use less of it?
Topic 2:
Social networking-
Is social networking sites making people lose touch with the
“real” world?
Do social networking sites give people a false since of
friendship?
Do social networking sites make it hard for people to
communicate face to face?
Topic 3:
Internet-
Is realigning on
spell check and grammar checks making it so that we don’t know how to spell as
well?
Is it possible we
don’t know how to pick up a thesaurus and find out ways of saying things?
Could we really live our lives without all the technology
now that we have it?
Could the internet just be a stepping stone to all the
possibilities that technology may have in the future?
Hi Jennie! It sounds like you generally want to write your paper about the impact of modern technologies on modern Americans- which is great because several of our readings can work easily with this topic. Now, the difficult task ahead of you this weekend is going to be turning these questions into a statement. Your thesis cannot be in the form of a question, but it can definitely your answer to one of the questions you've posed here. So for example, instead of asking how technology has impacted today's youth, you could make a statement that answers that questions, like, "Access to modern consumer electronics, like cell phones, video games, and computers, is the main cause of the obesity epidemic for American children today." Or, instead of asking whether social networking sites makes people lose touch with the real world, you could say, "Social networking sites are making it increasingly difficult for the younger generation to distinguish between the digital and real worlds, which negatively impacts their ability to contribute effective to the problems the real world faces today." I'm not too worried about connecting these ideas to a class text- mainly you'll want to work on constructing a juicy claim for this first draft so that you can start to build your argument around it.
